The 5th International Conference on Frontiers of Optical Coatings (FOC2020) was originally scheduled to take place in 2020. Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the resulting slowdown in research activities, the conference had to be cancelled.
However, given the rapid developments in optical coatings and the high impact of FOC conferences, SPIE has published a thematic section of the FOC2020 selected papers in the renowned optical engineering journal, Optical Engineering. The published thematic section consists of four papers related to the latest advances in optical coating materials, including the preparation of 1064 nm HfO2/SiO2 nanolaminate-SiO2 high reflector, the correlation between the process parameters of the auxiliary ion source and stress of SiO2 films, the stability of SiO2 films deposited using different technologies, and the enhancement of humidity stability on LiF/Al mirrors through MgF2.
