From October 20th to 24th, 2014, the 3rd International Conference on Frontiers of Optical Coatings (FOC 2014) was held at Tongji University, jointly hosted by the National Natural Science Foundation of China and the Chinese Optical Society and undertaken by Tongji University and Zhejiang University.
The conference was co-chaired by Professor Angus Macleod from the University of Arizona, USA, Professor Norbert Kaiser from the Fraunhofer Institute of Applied Optics and Precision Mechanics, Germany, Professor Claude Amra from the Fresnel Institute, France, and Dr. Christopher Stolz from Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, USA, Professor Liu Xu from Zhejiang University and Professor Wang Zhanshan from Tongji University. Wang Zhanshan was responsible for presiding over the opening and closing ceremonies of the conference.
The conference included seven topics: Design and Analysis, Nanostructure and Materials, Deposition Process, Measurement and Characterization, DUV/EUV/Soft X, Application, and High-Power Coating. Keynote speeches were delivered by Professor Angus Macleod, Professor Norbert Kaiser, Dr. Christopher Stolz, and Vice Director Zheng Wanguo from the Laser Fusion Research Center of the China Academy of Engineering Physics. Researchers from around the world presented their latest findings in the field of optics. Additionally, on October 20th, four top international experts in optical coatings, Professor Norbert Kaiser, Professor Alexander Tikhonravov, Professor Claude Amra, and Dr. Olaf Stenzel, held two short courses in two separate sessions, providing professional training for the conference attendees free of charge.
The conference received a total of 150 paper submissions, including 30 invited reports, 50 oral reports, and 70 poster presentations, covering the entire research scope of optical coatings. The conference papers will be published in the prestigious journal "Thin Solid Films" in the Elsevier database.
FOC is the highest-level international optical coating seminar held in the Asia-Pacific region and is one of the world's top three academic conferences in this field, with the largest scale and highest level. Nearly 60 foreign experts in the field of optical coatings from more than 10 countries and regions such as Europe, North America, Australia, and Asia, as well as over 150 domestic experts, scholars, and technical personnel from universities, research institutes, and industry enterprises in this field attended the conference. In addition, 11 optical-related companies also participated in the exhibition activities.
